Water Close-Up

Digital Catalogue • 2026

This publication documents Judith Austen's ongoing Water Close-Up & Reflections series, a body of work inspired by the shifting surfaces of ponds, marshes, streams, and coastal waters.

Created through a combination of direct observation, photography, and studio practice, these paintings explore reflection, movement, memory, and the constantly changing nature of light on water. What begins as observation often transforms into something more contemplative, a meditation on place, perception, and the passage of time.

Desert Contained

Digital Catalogue • 2026

Desert Contained gathers a series of paintings devoted to the cultivated desert. Plants brought into courtyards, patios, homes, and daily life.

Rather than depicting the vastness of the Southwest, Judith Austen focuses on intimate encounters between vessel, plant, light, and place. These works invite close looking, revealing the character, resilience, and quiet beauty contained within ordinary observation.
