Abstract paintings are ideas dreamt into color.
A series may begin with something as simple as a color I need, or as structured as an exploration of primary colors. Once the painting begins, I allow it to tell me where it wants to go.
Color has always been more than a visual experience for me. It can be something longed for, pursued, and even physically held through other forms of making. During times of loss and transition, painting became a way to navigate grief, memory, and acceptance on my own terms.
The experience of an abstract painting is never fixed. What a viewer discovers in the work may be as personal and self-referential as what led me to paint it.
